The scientific monograph Statuti komuna Koper (Statutes of the Koper Commune) sheds light not only on the historical but also on the legally, sociologically, and ethnologically related section of the past of the Istrian peninsula in the medieval and early modern period. It provides an analysis of the fundamental characteristics of the formation of medieval city statutory rules in the northeastern Adriatic region, with a special emphasis on the Koper statutes. One of the author’s original achievements, which is an integral part of his consistent and long-term drawing on archival funds, is the rediscovery of the codex of Koper statutes from the 1423 and other related documents. The vast majority of the aforementioned material is kept by the State Archives in Venice (ASVe). The basis for the research is provided by the Old Archive of the Koper Commune (it. Antico Archivio Municipale di Capodistria), which was taken to Italy in 1944, but has been accessible again in the aforementioned Venetian archive since 2016.
